Why We Must Raise Taxes on the Rich by Robert Reich

While this column is written in an American context, it is also applicable in a Canadian one

Yet even as their share of the nation’s total income has withered, the tax burden on the middle has grown. Today’s working and middle-class taxpayers are shelling out a bigger chunk of income in payroll taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes than thirty years ago.

  1. hi Kev... I've always believed in soaking the rich, and when I was in university, and wanted an invite to the Trotskyist/Anarchist parties which were the BEST, I used to urge others to EAT them. ;)
Seriously though...it is horrifying to see how this anti-tax crusade has become a cult, appealing to the greed of people, while screwing them in the future. I just saw that the teabaggers in Congress have tabled a proposal that would LOWER taxes, leave the military untouched, and slash and privatize medicare. We truly are living in a dark time...

  2. HiSimon, I don't know about eating them. they've been rotting from the inside for so long their meat is likely rotten ;)

I used to get into many arguments with friends and coworkers during the early days of the Harris nightmare about how we were being tossed a few crumbs to hide the fact that others were getting more than their fair share and at a huge cost to the services that our families rely on the most.

Fortunately enough woke up to get rid of him. Unfortunately they went right back to sleep, I guess we just have to wake them up yet again
