Perhaps the Conservatives greatest talent is their ability to change the channel using the art of distraction that I like to refer to as SQUIRREL!. Others favour the term shiny,but whatever you call it, this ability to distract the public from any uncomfortable truth or controversy confronting the government has served them well.
Of course SQUIRREL! wouldn't be so effective if they didn't have such willing accomplices in the corporate media. Having said that we progressives are just as guilty of aiding and abetting the Harperites in their playing of this cynical game, taking the bait hook,line and sinker. We do this by raging indignantly, how dare they royally rename the military. pass flag laws or change our national critter.
Meanwhile, Harper and his cronies sit back smiling smugly to themselves, mission accomplished. So the next time and there will be a next time, we should just keep our eyes focused straight ahead,locked firmly on the real target instead of chasing after irrelevant squirrels.
hi Kev...excellent post. I'm afraid in our fragmented world it's all to easy to not see the woods for the squirrels. And of course this works to the advantage of our enemies who want keep us distracted and dumb. Of course, I am sometimes guilty of chasing those squirrels, but at least I feel guilty later... ;)
