From the equality of rights springs identity of our highest interests; you cannot subvert your neighbor's rights without striking a dangerous blow at your own. Carl Schurz

What price, a human life

Is it $1500, a thousand, $500, nothing?

I ask this because many have taken to social media in recent days in defense of the Harper government's denial of medical services to refugees or as I like to call it their Refugee fuck off and die agenda.

Their defense takes but one form "I don't want to pay one cent for these freeloaders". basic human decency doesn't even enter the picture here. Their hatred (yes that is what is at play here) masked by faux economics.

Of course when you point out that cuts both ways you are met by silence

And as he often does the imitable Stephen Lautens sums it up perfectly

Yes while those that cheer Harper's cruelty deserve the lions share of our scorn we must save a measure for ourselves, we have allowed Canada through our inaction to become a meaner, more cruel place, a place where the Harper's of this world thrive.
