A fly in the ointment

The CBC is reporting of news out of Germany that the Germans are prepared to reject Harper's precious trade deal with the EU

The snag it appears is the nefarious Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) chapter that allows foreign corporations to sue governments for any action they take that may harm their profits.

To those of us who follow the #CETA hashtag on twitter this comes as no surprise as it is dominated by Germans, the debate and opposition to ISDS has been fierce to say the least. Sadly due to the paucity of information caused by the Harper Government™ refusal to release any info except to his corporate buddies, who all but wrote this agreement, there has been little to no debate here.

Harper has good reason to stonewall Canadians like this as polls show the more we know about CETA the more we don't like it

Given how much stock Harper has put into these negotiations going so far as to travel to the EU to issue falsely a pronouncement that the deal had been completed, this will be a huge blow to him if it does come to pass that Germany rejects CETA. I would imagine his business friends will be none too happy with him
