McGuinty and Harper Kindred Spirits

From corporate tax cuts to slashing services and gutting the civil service there seems to be more that binds Harper and McGuinty than separates them. Oh they may employ different rhetoric but in the end the results are the same.

So it is no surprise that McGuinty has channeled Harper in his pre-emptive interference in negotiations between school boards and their teachers, threatening to legislate them back to work if they don't have agreements in place by September 01 even musing about recalling the legislature if necessary. In fact McGuinty has taken the war on labour a step further given that the teachers are not on strike and in fact aren't even threatening to do so at this point

  1. I suspect McGuinty has concluded that taking an anti-union, anti-collective bargaining stance will gain him more than it will cost him in political support. Sadly, he is probably right in his calculation, but I still hope against hope that the two pending by-elections will not get him the votes he is obviously vying for.

    1. Hi Lorne McGuinty is extremely unpopular and was only returned to power on account of Hudak's policies and overall incompetence, by elections are a different animal with no fear of giving Hudak the reins of power.
