No matter how much nor how often we demonize Harper, the Conservative's support with but a few short lived blips remains solid, solid enough at least to allow them to retain the reins of power. It doesn't matter how often they bend or break the rules or at times the law. it doesn't matter how many draconian or unfair laws it passes nor does it matter their assault on labour and the environment either, too many Canadians have come to believe that there is no alternative.
While it is important to highlight their misdeeds perhaps the time has come to tone down the rhetoric and instead attack them and their ruinous agenda and lack of morality more dispassionately. More importantly offer alternatives and work to convince our fellow Canucks that there is a better more just way.
It's really hard to do when so much of the media is in bed with the Conservatives. You are right. Canadians feel they have no alternatives. That's part of the reason I can't abide the Liberals any more. They let down the country by being a weak opposition. They still don't have a clue. Can the NDP correct the Liberal's massive PR failure? It has shown some sparks but suddenly goes silent when needed most.

Concentrating on public opinion polls is a mistake, in my opinion. We have to do the grassroots work, doggedly and continuously. Offering alternatives, as you say, is crucial - and not just partisan alternatives, as mentioned in the above comments. Ideological and practical altneratives.
