Why #IdleNoMore

"...the amount of legislation and laws and legal protections that they have stripped away with two omnibus bills in, you know the last half a year is thirty years worth of legislation"

Dr. Pamela Palmater and Indigenous rights activist Clayton Thomas-Müller appear on AJE's Inside Story Americas, very effectively laying out the case for #IdleNoMore , a definite must see. On a side note familiar to Canadians no representative of the Harper government would agree to appear although as usual they did send a self serving statement chock full of half truths.

AJE devoted twenty-five minutes to this interview, sadly something we are never likely to see done by any Canadian corporate media outlet.

"What you had was an imminent threat, something you couldn't put off for negotiations for twenty-five years..."

  1. I fully support Idle No More, but it's also time that media stops referring to it as an Aboriginal movement. I believe that First Nations are Canadians, too. It is a Canadian, human rights movement. Let us give credit to the First Nations as leaders and as inspirations, but let's get all involved. Labelling it as an "aboriginal" protest limits the true power, spirit and gift the First Nations are offering to all Canadians, themselves included.

    1. This is the game the media and political classes play. They attempt usually quite successfully to pigeon hole movements planting the notion in peoples minds that, Oh that's just those people they don't speak for me and this is not of my concern.

I talked about this somewhat in this earlier post Staying in your discomfort zone
